Extension: Transcribe Video to Text Website:transcribevideototext.app Last updated: October 12, 2026
1. Overview
Transcribe Video to Text is a Chrome extension that turns videos into text: it reads the subtitles of a video when they exist, or transcribes the audio of the browser tab with a speech recognition service when they do not. It can also make an AI summary or study notes of a transcript. This policy explains what data we collect, why, how long we keep it and who we share it with.
2. Data we collect
Usage ID. A random ID created in your browser and sent with each request, so we can count your free and paid usage.
Browser fingerprint. A one-way hash of stable browser properties (operating system, languages, number of CPU cores, memory size, screen size and color depth, time zone). It is computed in your browser and used only to prevent abuse of the free limit, for example by reinstalling the extension.
Google account (only if you sign in). When you choose to sign in with Google, we receive and store your Google account ID and email address. Sign-in keeps your transcripts for 90 days instead of 30, opens them on any device and links a paid plan to you.
Transcripts. For every transcript: the page address and title, the platform, language, duration, and the transcript text with timestamps and speaker labels. They are stored so you can open them again in your transcript library.
Audio. When a video has no subtitles, the audio of the tab is streamed to a speech recognition service while you record. We do not store the audio.
AI summaries and study notes. If you ask for them, the transcript text is sent to an AI model and the result is stored with the transcript.
Usage events. Actions in the extension such as opening the panel, starting or stopping a transcript, copying or exporting, and error codes, with the extension version, browser version and browser language. We use them to fix bugs and improve the product.
IP address and country. Our server sees your IP address with each request. We turn it into a country code offline, without third parties, and keep the country with your usage data. The IP address itself is stored only when you uninstall the extension (to filter out test and abusive traffic) and in short-lived technical server logs.
Things you send us. Feedback messages, answers to the uninstall survey and the email address you leave for updates or support, if you choose to.
Subscription data (paid plans only). Your email, plan, billing period and subscription status. Payment card details are handled by the payment provider and never reach us.
We do not collect your browsing history. The extension notices videos on a page inside your browser to prepare the panel, but nothing about the pages you visit is sent to us unless you start a transcript there.
3. How we use data
to make transcripts, summaries and study notes and to show them to you;
to count free and paid usage and to prevent abuse of the free limit;
to let you sign in and to provide a paid plan you bought;
to answer your messages and to fix bugs.
We do not use your data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not use it to decide creditworthiness or for lending.
4. Storage and retention
In your browser: the usage ID, the fingerprint hash and panel settings, in Chrome local storage. Removing the extension removes them.
Transcripts, summaries and study notes: deleted automatically after 30 days, or after 90 days if you signed in with Google.
Usage counts and usage events: up to 12 months.
Feedback, uninstall survey answers, uninstall records with IP address and update emails: up to 12 months.
Account data (usage ID, fingerprint hash, country, Google account ID and email): while you use the extension, or until you ask us to delete it.
Subscription records: as long as the law requires for accounting and tax.
Our server is located in Germany. Data in transit is encrypted with HTTPS.
5. Who we share data with
Only with services that are needed to provide the feature you use:
Deepgram (privacy policy): receives the tab audio to transcribe it.
Speechmatics (privacy policy): receives the tab audio only if Deepgram is unavailable.
OpenRouter (privacy policy): receives the transcript text when you ask for a summary or study notes and passes it to the AI model provider (OpenAI or Anthropic).
Google: confirms your identity when you sign in with Google. YouTube subtitles are loaded by your browser directly from YouTube.
monetize.software and Paddle (Paddle privacy policy): handle checkout and subscriptions for paid plans. Paddle is the merchant of record and processes your payment details.
We do not share data with advertising networks or data brokers.
6. Permissions
sidePanel: shows the extension in the Chrome side panel.
activeTab, scripting, access to all sites: find the video and its subtitles on the page where you start a transcript; videos can be on any site.
tabCapture, offscreen: capture the audio of the tab while you record, when there are no subtitles.
webNavigation: notice when the page in the tab changes, so the panel shows the right video.
storage: keep the usage ID and settings in your browser.
identity: sign in with Google when you choose to.
7. Your choices and rights
You can use the extension without signing in. You can ask us for a copy of your data or ask us to delete it, including your transcripts and account, by writing to the address below.
