Transcribe Video to Text

YouTube subtitles download

Download the subtitles of any YouTube video as SRT, VTT or TXT. Pick the language track, free and without sign‑up.

Works with creator's captions in any language and with auto-generated captions.

How to download YouTube subtitles

  1. Copy the link of the YouTube video (youtube.com/watch?v=…, youtu.be/… or a Shorts link).
  2. Paste it above and press Get subtitles.
  3. If the video has several caption tracks, choose the language.
  4. Download SRT or VTT with timings, or TXT as plain text.

Which subtitles you get

Every caption track the creator uploaded, in any language, and YouTube's auto-generated captions in the video's original language. Creator's captions are usually more accurate; auto-generated ones are there for most videos that have speech.

Want just the readable text of a video instead of a subtitle file? Use the YouTube transcript generator.

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up, and all three formats are free. There is a fair-use limit on downloads per hour.

Can I download auto-generated subtitles?

Yes. If the creator added no captions, you get the auto-generated track in the video's language, with timings.

Can I get subtitles translated into another language?

On this page you get the tracks the video has. For YouTube's automatic translation into other languages, the free Chrome extension can get them right on the video page.

SRT, VTT or TXT: which one do I need?

SRT works in almost every video player and editor. VTT is the web format, used by HTML5 players. TXT is plain text without timings, handy for reading or notes.

Why does a video show no subtitles?

Some videos have no captions at all, for example music or very new uploads. Private, removed and age-restricted videos are not available either.
